Hushknock

How to choose a pill reminder app

A short checklist for iPhone users, and an honest note on where Hushknock fits and where it does not.

1. Does it keep reminding you?

One notification is easy to miss. Look for repeating reminders that stop only when you confirm, ideally with an optional ring. Ask how long the dose stays open and whether a late dose is recorded as late rather than missed.

2. What does the lock screen reveal?

Many apps put the medication name in the notification. If you share a table, a desk or a bed with other people, check whether names can be hidden.

3. Do you have to create an account?

An account means your medication list lives on someone's server. That is fine if you want sync or family sharing, and unnecessary if you only want reminders on one phone.

4. What is free, and what is the catch?

Read the free tier carefully. Some apps cap the number of medications or reminders, or put the core reminder behind a subscription. A fair model keeps reminding free and charges for extras such as analysis and reports.

5. Does it handle real life?

Late doses, snooze, quiet hours at night, as-needed medication with a daily limit, travel across time zones, different amounts morning and evening. These are the details that decide whether you are still using the app in month three.

6. Can you take your data with you?

Look for an export, such as CSV, and a report you can show your doctor.

7. Do you need caregiver or family features?

If someone else must know whether you took the dose, you need an app with sharing, which usually means an account. Medisafe and MyTherapy offer caregiver features; Hushknock does not.

Where Hushknock fits

Strong on: repeating knocks and a phone-style ring that stop when you tap Taken, a lock screen that never shows the medication name, no account and no server, an honest late-dose rule, snooze and quiet hours, as-needed medication with a daily limit, a time-zone card when you travel, free CSV export, and a free tier with no limit on medications.

Not for you if you need: an Android version, an Apple Watch app, Apple Health sync, refill tracking, or sharing with a caregiver. None of these exist in Hushknock today.

Pricing is on the home page and in the FAQ: reminding is free, Pro is for Insights, 12-week history and the doctor report.

Download Hushknock on the App Store Free. iPhone, iOS 17 or later.

Hushknock is a reminder tool, not medical advice. Follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist, and never change a dose because of this app. Notifications depend on your phone's settings; the silent switch mutes the ring.
