Track as-needed medication with a daily limit
Setting it up
When you add a medication, switch on “As needed, no fixed times”. The time list and frequency picker disappear. Enter the amount per dose, for example 400 mg, and an optional daily limit from 1 to 12, or leave it at no limit.
On the Today screen
As-needed medication has its own section under your scheduled doses. Each row shows the name, the amount, “Not taken today” or “2 of 3 today · last 2:15 PM”, and a Take now button. When you reach your daily limit, the button is replaced by “Limit reached”. That is a note from you to you, not a medical rule.
What gets recorded
Every Take now is logged with the time you tapped it. You can add a note to the dose, such as the reason or a side effect. As-needed doses appear in your history, in the CSV export and in the Pro doctor report, so your doctor sees how often you actually needed it.
What does not happen
As-needed medication gets no reminders, no missed or late status and no streak, because there is no scheduled time to be late for. If a medication should be taken on a schedule, set it up as a scheduled medication instead; you can switch later.
Everything else is the same
No account, nothing leaves your phone, and the lock screen stays discreet. See the FAQ for pricing and the keeps-reminding page for how scheduled doses work.
Download Hushknock on the App Store
Hushknock is a reminder tool, not medical advice. Follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist, and never change a dose because of this app. Notifications depend on your phone's settings; the silent switch mutes the ring.
